Not having kids myself it’s always hard for me to relate to those that do, but I’m consistently astounded at a lack of idiocy that goes hand in hand with parents and their kids.
Our latest episode of Taiwan’s little princesses and emperors involves a father and daughter team living in Taipei.
Daughter, a 20 something university graduate too lazy to get off her arse and get a job has “not been able to find a job” since finishing university a number of years ago.
Sponging off her parents daughter lives at home with dad, a university professor. Last year dad finally decided he’d had enough of daughter being a lazy bitch good for nothing and, after observing that instead of looking for work his daughter “spent most of her time talking to friends on the phone”, decided to curtail her phone usage.
Since dad opened up a phone account in daughter’s name three years ago, daughter regularly racked up bills in excess of $10,000 TWD a month ($337 USD) a month, topping out at $28,000 TWD one particularly lazy month.
And of course, dad was paying for all of this. To put what might look like small amounts into perspective, the average monthly wage in Taiwan is about $36,000 TWD or so.
Perhaps hoping that if he limited his daughter’s calls she might be inclined to look for work (and save him a boatload of cash each month), dad took daughter’s ID cards down to the phone shop and had the account placed in his name with a restriction on calls that can be made each month.
Six months later a furious princess, unable to adjust to her new call restrictions, ran down to the nearest police station and accused her father of ID forgery when he changed the account.
Either because they have nothing better to do or because nobody dares tell a Taiwanese princess she’s a freaking nutcase, the case wound up with the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office who opened up an investigation.
Not surprisingly, the investigation revealed that the father had used his daughter’s ID to change the phone account registration, ‘but they decided it was not likely the father had been able to take the IDs without her permission’.
End result? No forgery and the case was dropped.
Meanwhile no action was taken against princess for wasting everybody’s time and taxpayer’s money.
One would think at the very least three to six months community service (given she has nothing else to do) would have been in order but hey, here in Taiwan it’s perfectly acceptable to bring up bullshit charges against your parents because they restricted your phonecall time.
But you want to know what the real kicker is in this case?
What’s the bet princess is still at home sponging around like a lazy cow with daddy paying her phone bill.
One would want to hope she’s at least half-decent looking. Thirty can’t be too far off and if she can’t find some poor sucker to impregnate her, daddy might just be stuck with her for life.
